BUW That Changed Everything. A debate on the 25th anniversary of the University of Warsaw Library building in Powiśle

What exactly did BUW in Powiśle change, and how? Why did it become and is it still iconic? Does the University of Warsaw Library building today lean more toward being a symbol of modernity or a heritage landmark? What was the phenomenon of “buwing,” and what kind of BUW do its users need today?
These and other questions were discussed during the debate titled BUW That Changed Everything, which marked the culmination of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the University of Warsaw Library building in Powiśle. The debate took place in the BUW Exhibition Hall on June 11, 2025.
Participants included: Prof. Marek Budzyński – architect and urban planner, who, together with Zbigniew Badowski, designed the new Library building, Ewa Kobierska-Maciuszko – Library Director from 2003 to 2013, Barbara Siedlicka – Head of the Greenery Section at the University of Warsaw and caretaker of the BUW Gardens, Dr. Henryk Hollender – Library Director from 1992 to 2003, Justyna Jaworska – Chair of the Doctoral Council of the Doctoral School of Humanities at UW and Mateusz Mossakowski – Chair of the Student Government at the University of Warsaw.
The discussion was moderated by Anna Cymer, architectural historian, and Artur Celiński, editor-in-chief of „Architektura-Murator” magazine.
