UW Institutional Repository (ReIn UW) officially launched

On 27th February 2024, the UW Institutional Repository (ReIn UW) was officially launched at the University Library of Warsaw.

This repository serves as a comprehensive archive, gathering publications authored by UW faculty, doctoral candidates, and undergraduates, thereby showcasing the university’s scholarly contributions. It offers access to both metadata and full texts of evaluated scientific publications. Additionally, it serves as a repository for teaching materials, theses, reports, and other resources aimed at promoting scientific knowledge.

ReIn UW is committed to open access principles, ensuring that publications originating from the University of Warsaw are freely accessible. This commitment aligns with funders’ requirements for open access to scientific literature. Key features of ReIn UW include its status as a trusted repository maintained by the University Library of Warsaw, support for publishing under various Creative Commons licenses, indexing in OpenDOAR, provision of unique Handle identifiers for publications, and the ability to deposit preprints and postprints.

The establishment of ReIn UW was made possible through funding allocated to upgrade the existing UW Repository’s DSpace software as part of the Excellence Initiative – Research University project (IDUB UW, action V.3.3.). As a result, the previous UW Repository, which focused solely on collecting PhD theses, will be discontinued at the end of March 2024, with all dissertations having been migrated to the new repository.

Using cloakroom becomes obligatory from 19 February 2024

Using cloakroom becomes obligatory from 19 February 2024

From Monday 19 February 2024, the restriction to enter the library in outerwear applies again. It is introduced by Circular Letter No. 1/2024 of the Acting Director of the University of Warsaw Library dated 31 January 2024, and its reinstatement is dictated by the safety of users and collections.

Obligatory cloakroom
The obligation to use the cloakroom applies to all users of the library: including visitors, conference participants, University employees and students attending classes held at BUW.

Anyone wishing to use the library on site is required to leave their outerwear in the cloakrooms located on either side of the library entrance or in the self-service lockers available in the cloakroom located to the right of the library entrance.

  • The cloakroom located to the right of the library entrance will be open 24 hours a day.
  • The cloakroom located to the left of the library entrance (behind the coffee shop) will only be open 24 hours a day during exam sessions. Outside this period it will be open from 8am to 10pm; items left in the cloakroom must be collected before it closes.

Large-sized bags forbidden
Carrying backpacks and bags larger than 40x30x15 cm is also prohibited at BUW as described in the Regulations for the Use of the University of Warsaw Library. Large-sized bags should be stored in self-service lockers (measurements up to 85x45x25 cm) available in the cloakroom located to the right of the library entrance. It is not possible to leave large luggage in the cloakroom if it does not fit in the lockers.

Self-service lockers
A key to a self-service locker can be borrowed for 24 hours. The keys are issued by security staff at the entrance to the library. Please refer to the Rules for using self-service lockers in cloakrooms.

Visit planning advised
There are 1,000 hangers available in the BUW cloakrooms (600 in the cloakroom located behind the coffee shop and 400 in the other cloakroom) and 200 self-service lockers. During the period before and during exam sessions, both cloakrooms will be operating at night, while outside these periods only the cloakroom located to the right of the library entrance will be open 24 hours a day.

Before visiting the library, please check the number of people currently using the library – a counter is available at the top of the BUW website:

Those who will not be able to leave their belongings in the cloakrooms or self-service lockers due to the shortage of spaces will not be allowed into the library.

Depositing outerwear and large-sized bags in the cloakrooms will contribute to the safety of individuals, the book collection and the BUW spaces.
