2010 Print

9 August – 8 September - „Fryderyk Chopin. Ciennik osobisty” a sound installation organized by Turning Sounds Associacion and the University of Warsaw Library was presented in the Library’s garden.

17 September – 10 October - exhibition „Julian Ochorowicz (1850-1917). Śmiały myśliciel. Absolwent Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Człowiek renesansu w czasach pozytywizmu” (Julian Ochorowicz (1850-1917). Man of Renaissance from the second half of the nineteenth century. Graduate of the University of Warsaw) prepared by the University of Warsaw Library presented an outstanding scientist, psychologist and inventor.

25 September – 15 October - festival MROŻEK NA XXI WIEK (Mrożek for the 21st century). To celebrate Sławomir Mrożek’s 80th birthday Wydawnictwo Literackie presented an exhibition “Sławomir Mrożek”.


October - 30 lat "Solidarności" w Europie (30 years of Solidarity in Europe).
Representatives of the European Comission in Poland organized several events on the occasion of 30 years in Solidarity in Europe – one of them was a seminar “Narodziny wolności” (Birth of freedom) inaugurated by José Manuel Barroso. Also an exhibition of photographs by Erazm Ciołek “W drodze do wolności” (On the way to freedom) – an evidence of the birth of Polish NSZZ "Solidarność" took place in the passage-way.

The Year of Charles Darwin and a new collection in e-bUW
In the year of Charles Darwin’s 200th birth anniversary the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw prepared an digital collection “Wokół Karola Darwina” (Around Darwin) containing Polish publications inspired by the theory of evolution from the University of Warsaw Library collection (August).

30 November – 20 December - photographic exhibition „BUValia insolentia”. Photos of the Library taken by an artist photographer Rafał Bielawa.
 
15 December - the 10th anniversary of opening of the Library building in Powiśle district was celebrated with a cake and other cultural events. The celebration was held in the Library in the following months until December 2010.

January 2008 – exhibition: Reżimy totalitarne wobec ludzi nauki 1939-1945 (Totalitarian regimes towards scholars 1939-1945) 

22 February – 15 March – exhibition of Sławomir Golonko’s sculptures: Gdzie jest granica? (Where is a border?) 

April – exhibition: Przyłapani na czytaniu (Catched reading) on the occasion of the World Book Day (23 April)       

14 June – 7 July – exhibition: "Judaica w zbiorach Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie" (Judaica from the University of Warsaw Library collection).
The University of Warsaw Library and the 1st Warsaw Judaic Congress presented an exhibition of various kinds of  Judaic publications (leaflets, posters, post-cards, brochures, one-day prints) from the Ephemera Department.


2-21 September – exhibition: Homo Urbanus Europeanus - of a French photographer Jean-Marc Caracci.

25 September – 9 November – exhibitions: „Fashionable, dandys, elegant. Moda męska w XIX i na początku XX wieku w czasopismach ze zbiorów Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie” (Fashionable, dandy, man of fashion. Men’s fashion of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century in the magazines from the collection of the UWL) prepared by the Library and „Wyzwanie krawata. Krawat jako chorwacki wkład w światowe dziedzictwo kulturowe” (The Challenge of the Cravat. The Tie as Croatian contribution to global culture) organized by Chroatian Academia  Cravatica  and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Warsaw.

18 December – 18 January 2009 - exhibition ORBIS PICTUS - Świat malowany Jana Amosa Komeńskiego ( The Painted World of Jan Amos Komeński) prepared by the Faculty of Education of the University of Warsaw.

December 2006 – February 2007 – exhibition: Piękna Niewiasta: moda kobieca w polskich czasopismach XIX-wiecznych ze zbiorów BUW (Beautiful Woman: women’s fashion in Polish XIX-century periodicals from UWL holdings) 

19 February 2007 - official inauguration of the Year of Karol Szymanowski. The ceremony was accompanied by the first public presentation of manuscript purchased at auction in London as well as the opening of the exhibition commemorated to this great composer.

 June 2007 – photographic installation “Library” by Nicolas Grospierre October 2007 – the final ceremony of NIKE literary competition took place in UWL. NIKE is one of the most prestigious literary awards in Poland. 

20 October – 10 November 2007 – exhibition: Karol Linneusz. Ład i piękno przyrody (Carol Linneusz. The order and beauty of the nature) 

26 November – 17 December 2007 – exhibition: Między teorią a praktyką. Rysunek włoski ze zbioru Gabinetu Rycin BUW (Between theory and practice. Italian drawings from the collection of  UWL Print Department
